Elad Elrom’s presentation on Test Driven Development is an amazing eye opener. Although a lot has been talked on this topic and you can find numerous books on this topic, I like the style as to how this is presented.

HTML5 vs Flash – Tug of war

Apple bad mouthed a lot , about how Flash is a memory hog, uses a lot of CPU cycle and crashes all the time and hence they won’t support flash in all their products, whehter it be iPhone or iPad or whatever.
People belive that HTML 5 is going to kill Flash is the long run, as if Adobe is going to sit and watch it dying. Come On.

I read an interesting article by Jan Ozer, where he evaluated both the technologies under similar scenarios and feels that Flash beats HTML 5 and HTML 5 can be a memory hog at times, under certain circumstances.

Few of the Ozer’s findings are:-

Mac

With Safari, HTML5 was the most efficient and consumed less CPU than Flash using only 12.39% CPU. With Flash 10.0, CPU utilization was at 37.41% and with Flash 10.1, it dropped to 32.07%
With Google Chrome, Flash and HTML5 were both equally inefficient (both are around 50%)
With Firefox, Flash was only slightly less efficient than in Safari, but better than in Chrome

Windows

Safari wouldn’t play HTML5 videos, so there was no way to test that. However, Flash 10.0 used 23.22% CPU but Flash 10.1 only used 7.43% CPU
Google Chrome was more efficient on Windows than Mac. Playback with Flash Player 10.0 was about 24% more efficient than HTML5, while Flash Player 10.1 was 58% more efficient than HTML5.
On Firefox, Flash 10.1 dropped CPU utilization to 6% from 22% in Flash 10.0
In IE8, Flash 10.0 used 22.41% CPU and Flash 10.1 used 14.62% CPU

Syncables – Synchronizing made easy

Everyone is talking about the Cloud Computing today and most of the organization have already started providing a shared drive for their users on the cloud, so that the documents are available to the users all the time. Exploring the options, I wrote about DropBox sometime back, which seems to be great. So, if you don’t want to spend any money and still want to use a media to store 2GB of information, this is a cool option.

Syncables, seems to be making life more simpler here. Syncables allows you to synchronize all your information, whether it is media, files or contacts between your computers as well as your mobile phones running blackberry or windows mobile. Technical Perspective – Why iPad can’t use Flash

There have been a lot of buzz around, why Apple won’t allow Flash to be on any of its gadgets. There have been a lot of blame game going on from being Memory Hog to battery drainage, slowness etc etc. But i still wondered, why can’t these two companies, come together and work out the issues. I read this interesting article from Daniel Eran Dilger. He talks about the technical aspects as to why iPad can’t use flash and why either of these companies can’t resolve the issue.
